The artwork is highly representative of his initial period, during which he was strongly influenced by Matter painting (often associated with artists like Antonie Tápies).
During these years, Kuijpers frequently channeled impressions from his travels-such as his time in Suriname and his early trips to Morocco- into layered earthy compositions characterized by muted tones and heavy textures.
